School bus transportation is provided to and from school for most off-base housing areas. This transportation needs to be arranged after housing has been secured-- transportation is not provided from base housing or the Temporary Lodging Facility because they are in walking distance of the school. Once a housing unit has been located, the sponsor should contact the school's officer at 535-1314 to arrange school bus transportation. The school office provides information about bus transportation and about this process when your son or daughter registers. The school handbook also has the following information about bus transportation, including information about safety and student behavior: Bus transportation is a privilege and not a right and is provided by the Air Force free of charge for students who attend Lajes American School. Any concerns/issues such as bus routes, pickup times, etc., should also be addressed to the Schools Officer. The bus driver and / or monitor have the authority and the responsibility to maintain order and to enforce safety regulations on the bus. Students who create problems will lose the privilege of riding the bus. The school staff is responsible for standards of conduct for students while in transit to and from school-sponsored activities such as field trips and athletic events. The school administrators are charged with the enforcing standards of conduct by students in transit to and from school.
DoDDS will not allow employees to ride the school bus. Parents who volunteer in the school may be allowed space available transportation on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the School Transportation Office for details.
