School Improvement Plan
Mission Statement:
The mission of Lajes American School is to develop responsible students who possess the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and values to succeed in a changing world.
Target Goals:

All students will improve their problem-solving skills across the curriculum.
We define problem solving as: Identifying the problem, Gathering and analyzing relevant information, Selecting and explaining an appropriate strategy, and solving the problem.
- All students will improve their reading strategies in all areas of the curriculum.
We define reading strategies as: Accessing prior knowledge, summarizing and synthesizing the information, using graphics and text structure and developing vocabulary.
Interventions:
- Classroom Intervention - Goal 1:- Lajes American School (LAS) will use a variety of instructional activities in all curricular areas that will assist students in the improvement of problem-solving skills, defined as identifying the problem, gathering and analyzing relevant information, selecting and explaining an appropriate strategy, and solving the problem.
- Classroom Intervention - Goal 2: - Lajes American School (LAS) will use a variety of instructional activities in all curricular areas that will assist students in the improvement of reading strategies, with emphasis on developing vocabulary.
- Communication Intervention: LAS will use a variety of communication activities to continually inform all stakeholders of our efforts to improve students’ problem-solving skills. This intervention is designed to address both internal and external audiences in the accomplishment of this goal.
- School-Home-Community Partnership (SHCP)Intervention: LAS will develop and enhance partnerships among all stakeholders to improve students’ problem-solving skills across the curriculum. This intervention emphasizes our commitment to engaging parents, commands, and communities to support this goal, in conjunction with our Community Strategic Plan (CSP).
- Technology Intervention: LAS will develop and enhance the use of technology to improve students’ problem-solving skills across the curriculum. The focus of this intervention is to incorporate technology throughout all aspects of this goal.
